Mineral Luminescence Observed From Space

چکیده
Methods developed to explore the luminescent properties of moon facilitated development techniques infer terrestrial solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) from satellite instruments. While single SIF retrievals are inherently noisy, averaging many allows us obtain highly accurate estimates. We analyzed several years aggregated data collected by TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) and Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) over nonvegetated areas potential beyond realm photosynthesis. The fundamentally different at varying wavelengths in near-infrared reveal that about 10% all barren surfaces weakly luminescent, while a few luminesce strongly—amounts comparable vegetation. By means lithological maps, we attributed strongest luminescence signals exposed carbonate sedimentary rocks. Besides detailed evaluation signal properties, discussed implications for sets other remote sensing products.

Hydrologic and Cryospheric Processes Observed from Space
Ten Dragon 3 projects deal with hydrologic and cryosphere processes, with a focus on the Himalayas and Qinghai – Tibet Plateau, but not limited to that. At the 1 Dragon 3 Progress Symposium in 2013 a significant potential for a better and deeper integration appeared very clearly and we worked out an overview of the ten projects identifying specific issues and objectives shared by at least two p...
متن کاملCold‐regions river flow observed from space
[1] Knowledge of water‐surface velocities in rivers is useful for understanding a wide range of lotic processes and systems, such as water and ice fluxes and forces, mixing, solute and sediment transport, bed and bank stability, aquatic and riparian ecology, and extreme hydrologic events. In cold regions, river‐ice break up and the associated downstream transport of ice debris is often the most...
متن کاملClimate trends in the Arctic as observed from space
The Arctic is a region in transformation. Warming in the region has been amplified, as expected from ice-albedo feedback effects, with the rate of warming observed to be ∼0.60 ± 0.07°C/decade in the Arctic (>64°N) compared to ∼0.17°C/decade globally during the last three decades. This increase in surface temperature is manifested in all components of the cryosphere. In particular, the sea ice e...

The optical properties of cold tropical tropopause clouds are examined on a global scale, using two years of space-borne lidar observations from CALIPSO The linear depolarization ratio, color ratio and backscatter signal are analyzed in tropical clouds colder than 200 K in a way similar to recent studies of Pol...
متن کاملModelling of Lightning Discharge Patterns as Observed from Space
Thunderstorms are an integral component in the Earth's atmospheric system and have profound influence on a variety of industries. Specifically, the occurrence of lightning discharges has many negative effects, including disturbances on power lines, the commencement of forest fires and the delay of aircraft missions. Consequently, modelling the patterns of lightning discharges is intended to pro...
